Literature Text

Nothing steeps my mind and arid thoughts so well
Or spurs it on to reach a higher plain
Like  Dylan Thomas and a villanelle
When tiredness takes hold of my weak shell
And from much repeated thoughts I do refrain
Nothing steeps my mind and arid thoughts so well
The weary bones of Father Time know well
When life has gone the spirit will remain
Like Dylan Thomas and a villanelle
The tired eyes that see no more to tell
Of sights, so thoughts long tendril reach restrain
Nothing steeps my mind and arid thoughts so well
When all is all, and there's nothing but the knell
The soul will rise for nothing can retain
Like Dylan Thomas and a villanelle
Although my soul has fallen into Hell
And poetry made me morbidly insane
Nothing steeps my mind and arid thoughts so well
Like Dylan Thomas and a villanelle
Right up to the very last lines this was meant to be a serious villanelle, but I just couldn't resist adding a humorous twist at the end. :D It's just me, I guess.

Enjoyed this - heavily structured form :( - but repetitive :) so once the refrains are worked out and copied down it's just a matter of getting the intermediate lines to gel with the skeleton - so to speak.
